SELAMAT DATANG! Welcome to our second blog!

As a college student staying far away from home, you probably have a moment when you are broke yet you want to eat yummy food that is cheap that can still fulfill your stomach, right?

It’s INSTANT NOODLES!!! That’s right! Instant noodles are life saver for many students when they are broke (can hear the sound of angels coming whenever there’re instant noodles in cupboard...).

You probably know an instant noodle brand called INDOMIE from Indonesia, right? The Indonesian instant noodles are famous in Malaysia and they can be found easily in supermarket and even food stalls (we call it Mamak in Malaysia) serve them in the menu. It shows that Malaysians also love them. But, have you noticed that many Malaysians tend to prefer Indomie than their local instant noodles MAGGI MEE?

Now then, let’s look at 4 reasons why Indomie are better than Malaysia’s Maggi Mee that we have found.

1. More filling your stomach

Based on the size and weight, Indomie generally has bigger packing and has slightly more content than Maggi Mee. We also have a comparison table of the average weight for both brands right here:

You can see that Indomie is more worth it than Maggi Mee when it comes to satisfying your hunger, at least weight-wise!

2. Colorful and suitable packaging material

Packaging of Maggi Hot Cup and POP MIE

Comparing POP MIE and MAGGI HOT CUP, the most famous cup noodles from Indonesia and Malaysia, their packaging designs have totally different usage of colors. The design of POP MIE looks more colorful with different colors for each flavor, while Maggi Hot Cup keeps its yellow theme for most of its instant noodle packaging. This difference can also be seen with Indomie and Maggi Mee.

Also, the material for the packaging is different. POP MIE is using foam, while Maggi Hot Cup is using plastic. Instant noodles are nice to be eaten when it’s hot which makes POP MIE’s foam cup more suitable rather than plastic, there are actually a few benefits from using foam material:
  • It prevents leakage and bad smells
  • It is not easily to be dented
  • It can stand both hot and cold condition which keep the food hot or cold longer
  • It is light, quite durable and nice to hold

3. More choices for flavor

Some variety of flavors of Indomie and Maggi Mee

Indonesia’s Indomie has not only usual flavors for instant noodles like chicken, beef and curry flavors, but also local delicacies, such as soto, rendang, baso, and so on. It also has released some unique flavors that represent the famous cities of Indonesia and can be bought in those specific cities and neighboring cities only (INDOMIE HUNT!!!)

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s Maggi Mee are mostly to curry-based flavors even though it offers few international flavors such as Thai tom yam and Korean beef. Malaysian instant noodles are overall still lacking in variation and creativity in creating new products by using its local food compared to Indonesia.

4. Cheaper

Surely, the most important part of buying food, including instant noodles is the price! They have to be economical so most people can buy them even they are poor or broke (students’ staple food!). Over here, we have the comparison of prices in both countries as shown in Ringgit Malaysia.

Based on this, we can see that Indonesian instant noodles are priced cheaper than Malaysian ones. Both of their packet instant noodles price are not much different, but Indonesian cup noodles are cheaper if you compare them within the grocery stores in Malaysia.

Well, now you know why Indonesian instant noodles are more worth it. It fills up your stomach more, it has better packaging, and there are more flavor choices with lower price! It’s no wonder that many people from Malaysia and other countries love to eat Indonesian instant noodles like Indomie and Mie Sedap.
